DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP

RESOLUTION NO. 03182025-01

A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF DOUGLASS, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA IMPOSING A TEMPORARY BAN ON OUTDOOR BURNING

WHEREAS, The Township of Douglass, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (“Township”) is a municipal corporation and Second Class Township operating pursuant to the Second Class Township Code, 53 P.S. § 65101, et seq.; and

 WHEREAS, the existing dry and dangerous burning conditions and sub-average rainfall have created great risk of fire in the Township that requires soaking rain to end the fire danger; and

WHEREAS, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (“NOAA”) and the National Integrated Drought Information System (“NIDIS”) have declared that the County of Montgomery is currently in a severe drought condition; and

WHEREAS, there have been an increase in the number of wildfires in Montgomery County and surrounding Counties in recent days and emergency measures are required to reduce the severity of the danger of fires in the Township of Douglass; and

WHEREAS, the current drought conditions warrant a temporary ban on outdoor burning of any kind for the protection of health, welfare, safety of the residents and property within the Township; and

WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Board of Supervisors of the Township to impose a temporary burning ban.

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of Douglass Township, Montgomery County, as follows:

  1. All open burning is hereby banned in the Township for a period of thirty (30) days from the effective date of this Resolution, or as modified/removed by notice of the Fire Marshal.
  2. Open burning includes the ignition and subsequent burning of any combustible material (including but not limited to garbage, leaves, twigs, wood, litter, paper, vegetative matter involved with land clearing, or any sort of debris) outdoors either in a burn barrel, backyard fire pit or on the ground. The use of propane or gas stoves, charcoal briquette grills, or the use of tobacco in any form is not covered under this Resolution. Township residents are encouraged to responsibly dispose of cigarettes and related products to minimize the risk of fire.
  3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon execution.

RESOLVED and ENACTED this 18th day of March, 2025 by the Douglass Township Board of Supervisors.
